Bath Clubs Peace Trial Cancelled, New ignition system fitted, Latest Trials Championship Tables etc. Board decision re Trials Championship Rounds

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Bath Club News -

I’m sorry to have to report that our Peace-Trophy Trial, due to be held on Saturday 5th November, has been cancelled. Unfortunately our usual venue,Rodney Farm,is not available to us at the moment,so we had no alternative but to cancel this year’s event.

We do however hope to run the Knut Trial this year and look forward to seeing you all again on Sunday December 11th.We’re planning to go to our usual venue at Dyrham Woods.More details nearer to the event.     Nipper Allen.

Franks’ News – had a new ignition system fitted last Friday. Thanks to NHS & RUH!

Centre Champion News - Merv Walker is ‘walking away’ with the  ’C’ Novice class with 6 wins from 6 rounds. It’s extremely unlikely he will be beaten! It also looks most likely that Gary Marshman can take the Expert Class as, if he rides the next three rounds all those scores will count, whereas Ben Lovelace will drop a score if he rides the next three. It looks as if Colins’ Championship run will finish this year, unless some extremely unlikely events happen.

In AB Kevin Hart only need one third place ride to clinch it, although Trevor Ashford Dean Lovelace & Rob Scott are going to sort out the 2nd to 4th places between them I reckon. B class looks as if it’ll be Kevin Miller from Andy Kibby. I won’t embarrass our O/40 & O/50 riders, no I’ve changed my mind, I will! O/40: Mark Talbot leads Colin Bennett & I reckon he’s the favourite & in O/50 it’ll be Martin Strang.

Board Decision re this years Trials Champs:

“Following the October Board Meeting it was agreed that as some of the Wessex Centre Championship Trials have had to be cancelled for 2011 the Championship will be decided by  taking into account the best scores from all but two of the rounds held. Therefore if 10 rounds are held 8 scores will count but if a rider only rides in 6 of the rounds then all six of his scores will count.”

Stork Time

We are delighted to announce the arrival of another future riding star, Alfie Jake Hamblin, whose proud Mum & Dad are Amy & Jason.

Alfie was born yesterday, by Caesarian Section, after a long [36hr] labour at about half past five in the afternoon. As Alfie was a fortnight late & weighed in at 10lbs 2oz I’m sure all our Mums will empathise with Amy.

Our very best wishes to all of them including proud Grandad, Kevin. We look forward to seeing them all at Centre events.

ps & if you read the Wiltshire Times, there are pictures of Grace & Freya Noad in last Fridays edition

Here are the Avery Results from today!

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

Now I’m Chattering, right, Ben Darch did win, but Lee Hassall wasn’t 2nd, K Brain was runner up, if I knew “the Brains” first name I’d use it, but I don’t. Someone will tell me I’m sure. As I didn’t catch up with the Experts & didn’t see an Entry List I had to guess the likely winners & chose to watch potential winners Ben & Lee on their last lap at Sections 3 – 6 inc., the ones that might have been the sections to take marks.

Quickly looking at the other Results, I reckon Paul Mountevens rode the Expert route & not the AB route? The Over 40 route was obviously hotly contested with Mark Talbot coming out on top. Richard Elliot had a rear wheel bearing collapse at the end of lap 2 & had to limp round his last one to get his finish.  Kevin Miller had a good result [3rd] in B class, his first Championship trial since being upgraded.

Kevin Hart has asked me, via the Contact the Editor link, when our Championship Rounds are. I’ll try & get the Centre Fixture List posted up soon as I can. Pete Cullimore has been working like a Trojan to get it printed for us & it’s available today. You should be able to get one by asking your Club Secretary. If you join West Wilts, Phyllis will send you one with your Club Membership Card, but I don’t know how many other Clubs do the same!  Frank

Happy Christmas to all & a review of riders results in the Centre Trials Champs from Adam

Friday, December 24th, 2010

Frank

Hope you and Phyllis are well? Good decision not to attend  the Knut as the trial ran into the late afternoon and I was observing rather than continue my poor spell of brainless riding. Think I got back to the car around 3.45pm, but happy to help and had a great day.

I wanted to ask you to put up a mention on the Wessex website for some of the lads who also had great rides this year, that perhaps have been overlooked. In Colin’s absence Lee Hasall has had a great year and a third is not what he would have hoped for but for a fair period he has led the class and made sure he attended all events and even rode on after smacking full bore into the tree at Compton Greenfield when I did exactly the same thing.

Rob Scott continued to show his no fuss riding ability and whilst he did downgrade himself it doesn’t take away from the fact that he clearly won the AB’s. In the same class Chris Mitchard has not been able to attend every round due to work and family commitments but when he does ride, what a performance he seems to put in and I am delighted to see him get into the Experts at the ripe old age of 45! I have appreciated his help this year, showing me how to set about the tougher sections and at the tender age of 42 I have no ambitions to follow suit, save to say that I just want to finish in one piece each weekend.

In the B’s Wayne Holmes has made it to the next level although he reliably informs me he will go over 40′s and has even arranged to compete in his own small championship with work colleagues who all ride the B route during the year, good on him. It should be noted he was only upgraded to B’s this year, so a great result.

And what about the C’s? Kevin Miller may be in his 50′s and having another bash at Trials having last ridden in the 80′s but boy oh boy does he make an effort. Who else this year has ridden an average of 8 times per month? Yes, that was 8 times! Now Kev loves his Trials and will ride a mid week event then a Saturday and of course a Sunday. And if on route, a Trial is cancelled he will re-direct his little van and turn up somewhere else just to keep his riding skills honed. Moreover he has won something like four championships, two club and two centre, which is no mean feat. He has ridden up towards Northampton, Birmingham, the South Coast and even London in his search for a ride and even taken in some Nationals to improve his riding. Lets see how he goes in the B’s

Lastly, Terry Potts has made it to the B’s and Terry had his first Trial the same day I did in 2007 at the Kingswood MCC May Bank Holiday Trial at Ozleworth. Thing is Terry had studies to finish and exams to take and then missed a lots of riding with house moves and one thing and another, not least money, but puts in total effort when he can ride, being perhaps a little tough on himself if he thinks he didn’t do his best.

So to the many varied riders with just a million different stories to tell, I for one have enjoyed the year and congratulate us all on another one under the belt. Very well done to all winners and to the masses, big thanks to the organisers and the back room guys and gals who make it all possible.

All the Best & Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. - Adam Colburn.

Frank says ‘Adam, thank you for that critique of our Championships, it’s great to hear from someone who is just out for a days fun, & who puts something back into the sport by helping Organisers when they aren’t riding. Adam’s comments show how you can be competitive amongst your own skill level [that's why we have the Grading system of course] & I echo his comments about the individual riders he mentions.

On behalf of all those of us that don’t ride but help to make your sport happen, thanks for your thanks. We all like a little pat on the back sometimes!

Have a great festive season all of you: Frank & Phyllis

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

We’ve added Results for the Bath & WoE Peace Trial held yesterday, & today’s Wilts Border Autumn Trophy for you. Close call in the Experts today: Ben Darch & Colin Crease tied on m/l but Ben had 32 to 31 cleans to take top spot!

WARNING – Bike thieves are at work, Tim Wheeler & Ben Darch have both had bikes stolen recently.  You can’t be too careful with your pride & joy. I hear that the thieves are grinding off Frame & Engine No’s pretty well straight away so make sure you’ve got some other special ID for your bike.

More ‘stuff ‘ tomorrow – Frank

Sums in my head

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Taken to task by a “chattering” reader today re my post yesterday – I’ll tell you why in a minute – but We’re really pleased – someone ‘out there’ wants to know what we’re chattering about! And another thing – I asked about former Centre Trials Champions – well we have at least  2 more readers! They have suggested that these four guys have been our Solo Trials Champs. Any-one agree?

Jon Tuck, Dave Jeffries, Gary Marshman & Rob Wrigley are the names in the frame.

Right then, my thinking aloud about Becky Cooke Ladies Champ chances, I got it wrong. Now I’ve read the Championship Rules I’ll correct myself If Becky wins the last Round she WILL be Champion again. If she wins Joanne cannot be better than second, both Ladies will discard one score, so bothe will have 4 wins & 3 seconds, the tie break is then best performance in the last Round, so in my scenario Becky would be Champ again.

We can’t go to the IoW to support Becky – because of [our] West Wilts Centre Trials Championship Errington Cup – but our appointed Centre Steward has pulled out to be part of Becky’s on site Back up!

Good day out at Easter Compton today it was really dry there with plenty of grip = lots of happy faces at the finish. Results to follow when available.

Lets also hope the West Wilts team have had a good day at the Natterjack final BEC Round, I think our guys for this Round are Dan Beavan, Ben Shuttleworth & Tyson Maytom-Jones. Not sure if Freddie Broadway has a functional bike or not at the moment. I’ll let you know when I have a Report

Keep your feet up or have quick special tests: Frank

Franks Ramblings!

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Good morning everyone. Rambling begins!

Kingswood’s 1st Summer Series Results from yesterday, 28th March, are now available [on the Non Championship Wessex Trial Results for 2010 Page] A revision is now, 31st March,  posted – 2 riders were missed off originally!

Didn’t get TMX until yesterday, oh dear, Joanne Coles 1m/l beat Becky Cook 7m/l at the Ladies Champ round at Basingstoke – Craig Talbot’s malign minding influence maybe, no probably not, obviously an “easy” trial & three sections[?] went wrong for her. Great result for Maisie Payne though 1st in “C” class Champs & cousin Victoria had 5th in her first ride in the “B” class Champ. Go for it Ladies.

“Old Maler’s” Christmas Quiz Answers

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

The winner of our Gazette Competition was, the only entrant, Brian Newbury.

Brian’s answers were,  in order, Pat Richardson, Belgrave Square, Neil Hudson, Martin Bracey, Stanley Michael Bailey, Paul Friedrichs, Sten Lundin, Gerrit Wolsink, Ariel, & Henry Body.

Old Maler claims that Brian got 8 right, & has put in a protest about one of his wrong answers.

Also Brian claims question No 8, as a matter of fact is incorrect, & that his answer is correct, if the right question had been asked.

Work all that out if you can –  comments are welcome – Frank
