Wilts Border Endeavour Trophy Trial Regs – its’s on Sunday!

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Wow, you are spoilt for choice, there is a Timed Trial, a Hare & Hounds & a Trial all going on on Sunday coming!

I’ve just received & posted up the Regs for the Endeavour. Start time 10:30 at the Piggeries Stanton St Quinton, my spies tell me that the dry weather means that there will probably be some sections further up the valley than usual!

West Wilts working party today at Farleigh prior to the Hare & Hounds, youngest member was Ben Shutt & Abby’s little Haydn, quite a little cherub & fast asleep.

See you soon: Frank

ps when I’ve a little more time I need to tell you about Frome’s Dinner/Dance, post the North Somerset TT results from last weekend & point you to some video from Kingswood’s Trial & some from a foreign trial starring one of our lady riders, watch this space.

What’s Noo ……. is:

The View from Ba-House

I’ve not been to many trials in the Centre lately, mainly because I have been elsewhere. First there was the Stronlossat Question to resolve, then there were the Talmag, Wallace and Colmore trials to visit, so I’ve only been able to see two Championship trials in the Centre so far, Wilts-Border and Frome.
The Wallace thankfully returned to it’s roots and put in some really scary sections. The one I went to was in an old railway cutting and it was only cleanable if you were willing to fly across a steep camber, in a big gear, and aim to go between two stout Ash trees. It was great to watch and proved to be fairly safe, with only one rider head-butting a tree.
The big climb at Dovedale in the Colmore was at it’s worst this year, very slippery with only seven riders reaching the top. After Dovedale I walked down to Blockley and I was just in time to witness the slowest Road-Traffic-Accident I’ve ever seen. The result was one very unhappy Mercedes owner with a Tesco van in his shiny new bonnet. Still the van-driver tried his best to make amends. “Sorry about that” he said.
I had a bad day at Frome, for everyone started cheating and I failed to stop them. What happened was that a rider tried a new line that I thought was a cheater, so I said, “You can’t do that”, and we took it from there. What he did was ride through a gate then turn left away from the line of the section, do a loop and then shoot back in straight up towards the ends cards. ( Now as far as I’m concerned the rider should at all times try to ride from one gate to the next in as straight a line as possible, riding a loop outside the boundary of the section is not allowed.) Anyway it seemed that everyone, including the Steward, thought that I was mistaken so I had to let them all get away with it. Thinking about it afterwards I’m still of the opinion that I was right. I think it’s absurd to allow that kind of leeway, but it seems that I’m on my own on this. Still,to quote my hero, “Maybe I’m partly to blame”. If I had taken the trouble to study the section before the start then perhaps I could have closed the door with some wood, and stopped the problem early. Sadly though this experience has left me feeling really bitter,so I’ve decided that I’m with Phyllis Sweeting, Theresa Talbot and Colonel Gaddaffi, it’s no more Mr Nice Guy. Be warned, don’t even think of kicking any stones in my section.
Freddie Adams seems to be progressing well. He’s now at the stage of nearly getting everything right but crashing all the time. If he can stay patient it’ll come good soon. It’s bold of him to choose a Honda to train on, for it’s surely the most difficult bike to ride around here. If your ever tempted to buy one yourself, before ordering it you should really spend a few hours watching the two Georges, Best and Papa, at play. They’ve been fighting Hondas for years but unfortunately the bikes seem to be winning.                                                    Ba
Ed. I’ve no idea what the Stronlassat Question is but maybe Ba has discovered is new chemical element called Stronlassium analogous to Strontium which has association with Strontian. I’ve also heard its been very cold in the Highlands this February

What’s Noo is …….
The Wells  Clubs John Stait Trophy Championship Timed Trial Results are now posted on the Page, thanks to Steve Thorne. Quickly scanned them & I see Mitchell Frost did more laps than Tim managed, the younger generation asserts itself? Winner was Shane Lovett losing no marks  on observation & setting standard time, pushed by Jason Hamblin who lost 3 on observation [thats in 6 observed sections] & a minute on time.

A reminder from the Valers – don’t forget their Phoenix Club Trial on Sunday! Info below – [Shan't get there myself, but I see Pat Richardson is Secretary, would someone let me know that her family are Ok out there in Japan, I can't remember where they live! Unfortunately Tepco [Tokyo Electric Power Co.] have a bad reputation for public communication & the latest retraction [lowering initial radiation dose by 100 times is not reassuring] sorry rant over but I’m expecting confirmation of a rupture of the containment vessels to come sooner rather than later even if the integrity of the SS reactor PV are confirmed.

That its nearly time for some peoples ‘Holiday in the Highlands’ – I’ve just checked out the runners & riders to see who are our Centre & local riders. Pleased to see that Ian Fortune & Andy Noad [Bath & WoE] & Ian Shuttleworth [WWMC] have paid their moneys  & at 22, 23 & 24 respectively get their early day over with on the first day, I see they’ve got Grimbo, Carlos Casas & Wiggy close to them. Adam Norris [WWMC] & Paul Mountstevens [BMCC] run at 78 & 79 & they’ve got Amos Bilbao running close to them. CSMA have entered Billy Craig, Tony Moulder & Geoff Herbert at 96,97 & 98. Tony & Geoff we know but Billy I’ve never heard of. As he’s entered on a 125 GG I guess he’s a youngster? Get in touch if you know about him, is he fairly local? They’ve got Birks & Joe Baker for company at 100 & 102. Brothers Jean Marie, Eddie & Eric Lejeune  at 115, 116 & 117 are names to conjure with. Not contenders I’m sure but a wonderful tribute to the Event, lets hope they all enjoy themselves & have fun. Eddie especially will conjure up memories for many.
Craig Talbot [Wilts Border] has got in & goes at 150 with Becky Cook at 149. Friends from SW Centre include Ricky Wiggins who’s got in, I’m pleased to say, at 146. Rob & George Pollard [Moreton] are at 157 & 158, & George Edyvean from Cornwall [Pendennis] rides with them at 159. Potential Leaderboard man Ross Danby [Bewdley] is at 198. Theres another trio, this time of Bendalls 228 Henry, 229 Jason, & 230 Joseph {W Glos & Forest of Dean] . Here’s a tip for a top ten place riding at 250: Jack Sheppard [Ipswich] on a 125 Beta, especially as Dabill is riding at 248. I expect both to be top 10 at the end of the week, barring mechanicals.
But where are the Ladies this year? I can only see Becky, Katy Sunter & Emma Bristow in the list. It would have been nice to have had Laia Sanz enter again this year.
Good luck to all of you. Hope you have a good week & enjoy some of it!   ……………   Frank

Wilts Border Trial at the Piggeries today, don’t forget the Wyndham Haines Centre Championship Trial next Sunday [13th March]

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

After the Wilts Border Trial today, Dave Best asked me what was on next week. Since I have no memory it took me a while to work out it was Fromes’ Wyndham Haines Centre Championship Trial. Then I realized why I didn’t know, I hadn’t posted any Regs!

When we got back I checked with Tom & Mary that it was on, they had been out Marking Out for next weekend, so don’t forget. When Mary gets the Regs to me I’ll get them up! Regs are now posted!

Good little Trial at the Piggeries, nothing difficult, although the climb in Section 7  polished up & started to take marks in the last couple of laps. Thanks to all Observers, it was a bit too cold for comfort, even though we’d finished by one o’clockish.

After the Trial I gathered from one ‘schoolboy’ Dad that they hadn’t had a good day for a particular reason. So I checked the other side of the story. One lad didn’t want to ride competitively, so didn’t enter, the Club  advised him of the Insurance implications of riding around the venue  should he cause an accident & that he could practice after the Trial. As Centre Steward, I completely support the Club’s action, that is why we have Rules for Competitions – to protect both Organisers & Riders. As Dad didn’t advise me of  this explanation by the Club I couldn’t talk all this through with him, but if he reads this & contacts me I am very willing to explain this to him. We all know schoolboys are the future of our sport.

Watch this space for Results & Regs: Frank

Todays Border Cup Results [06/02/11] are here for you!

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

Hi Guys & Ladies,

Team Talbot have worked wonders with Results- They are now posted for you.

You may now have a Centre Fixture card, will you all note that although the Mendip Traders, 24th April & the Frome Ron Jeffries, 11th September are not starred in it, they should have been. So BOTH THESE EVENTS ARE Centre Trials Championship Rounds.

I thought the winner today might be on 10 or less. Guess what? Colin, having done the 18:00 – 06:00 shift last night/this morning still came home the winner on just 8 m/l. If work lets him ride many rounds those other guys will have to work hard to usurp his title.

Hope to see you all again next Sunday at the West Wilts James Cup trial

Centre Trials Champs – Border Cup Regs available. Other chatter. Mendip’s Winterhead Results

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Morning all.

The Centre Trials Champs begin next Sunday with the Avery, then on consecutive  Sundays the Border & James Cups so by the middle of next month we may have a feel for how it might go. With Champion Colin Crease maybe less committed than in the past is it time for some-one new at the top? We shall see, perhaps Colin will be able to ride all Rounds, if he does I wouldn’t bet against him. I guesss though that Ben Darch will want to ride all our Rounds & he will push hard to be Champion.

The Centre Enduro Championships have, to be honest, were a bit of a damp squib last year with more several planned Rounds being cancelled due to poor entries or problems with available venues. Factoring in that several “likely lads” were also doing other Championships which means date clashes were a problem – quite apart from the fact that the likely lads supporters who have the knowhow & drive to put on our Centre Events don’t have many spare weekends either I hope you can understand the difficulties. For this year there are only 2 Enduros & 3 H&H’s on the Centre Fixture List & a 2011 Championship is a little “up in the air”. I hope we will resolve this at the next Board Meeting.

Gary Scrivens is getting the Valers website added to the list of links available directly from the ACU web-site. Having had a quick look this morning I notice there are other Centre Clubs which are also not found via ACU. If Clubs want their sites added, let me know & we can get it fixed for you – obviously if Rugby hasn’t been askedyou wouldn’t expect a link would you?

You saw it here first! Eddie Lejeune (& his brothers) confirmed entries for the SSDT! Remember the report we had last year that it was quite likely – well the ballot favoured them. Never been quite sure about Laia Sanz – after seeing the World Champion having her bike kickstarted for her by her Minders, but this year she was best Lady & finished around 45th two wheeler in the Dakar Rally – I know she had a top class mentor [quiz - who was he?] before & during the Rallye Raid but its still a great achievement, & if the reports that she wasn’t credited with all of the time she spent stopped at an injured rider are correct, then that is unfortunate whether or not it would have affected her ultimate position.

Just in! Rob Pike has mailed over the Valers  Winterhead Trial results from yesterday. Slightly disappointing Entry, but fair weather & enjoyable.

That’s it for the moment, see you at the Avery: Frank

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Hello all.

Now we’re in the electronic era it’s easy to discover how daft you are perceived to be.

We are doing our best to cut costs & quite a few [but not all] Board Minutes are now emailed out. I notice that in Decembers I’m quoted as saying there will be T&E Licencing Seminars in February. How would I know what I said? The important thing is that people actually DO read these Minutes as is shown by the fact that  I’ve been asked whether my own [later] mail to Club Secretaries stated different dates  [18th & 25th January] & asking  which is correct.

I’m pleased to confirm they are on 18th & 25th January. Please don’t think I was asleep at the Board Meeting & said the first thing that came into my head!

I wondered if Martin Witt was out with Lee at the Wilts Border Trial on Sunday,  & Chris Wrigley confirms that he was. Good to know he’s around & about as I haven’t seen him since he was in RUH just after his accident. I also noticed Craig Talbot wasn’t in the Results, & Theresa tells me he’s in plaster for a month or more with a broken scaphoid in his left wrist. Thats not good news – lets hope it heals nicely now its immobilised.

That’s all muttering completed for now! Frank
