So what’s been added this morning?

Results of the BSSA 3rd Alan Brown Timed Trial

Results of the Swindon Corinium Enduro

Regs & Entry Forms for the North Somerset Colin Stenner Timed Trial

Regs & Entry Forms for the North Somerset  Wednesday evening Fowlers Trophy Timed Trial.

What a long way to go for Tom Culliford. I notice he rode the Youth C National Championship Trial up in Westmorland & placed 11th. He wasn’t furthest travelled though as George Marshman, Oliver Lawer & Toby Martyn were all up there from further south west than us. Good luck for the rest of the campaign Tom.

Big bit in TMX about Katy Sunter in the SSDT. Yes just 3 women this year. Laia Sainz seems to have gone to do Enduro’s, will she ride the World Trials Rounds this year?. Iris Kramer isn’t entered this year either. Or were they both unlucky in the Ballot?

World Championship Sidecar Cross is underway too, with local men Dan & Joe Millard & Richard Jenkins/Pete Girling picking up useful points.

Finally don’t forget to enter the Centre Traders Championship Trial, it’s tomorrow week.  I’m sure the Valers will have found some cracking Sections for you. I see that contender Ben Darch broke a finger down at Yeo Vales’ Trial last Saturday, so that could be a handicap for him. Must have been a tough trial because Andy Noad had banged his thumb about at the same event.

I’ll see you around & about: Frank

Soon be Easter!

And that means the Mendip Vale Traders Trophy Centre Championship Trial. I’ve been told the Mendip Vale Organising squad are pressing on with their second event in the month  - their prestigious Championship  Trial, possibly [probably? - Ed] the best event in the Wessex Centre (and beyond !), on 24th April.
After a couple of years at Belmont Estate near Bristol, the venue was in jeopardy and then plans for a brand new venue came unstuck at the last moment. Undeterred the team have now secured the use of “Lambs Lair” at West Harptree in the picturesque Mendips.
The venue provides plenty of opportunity and the team will be looking to maintain the standards for this event with either a planned two laps over twenty sections, or three laps over fifteen sections, so it will provide an excellent ride round, with a good variety of sections and going.
That number of sections could mean a bit of a challenge to cover, so any rider who provides an Observer will be eligible for a free entry in the next Club trial.
It will be one hell of a day out and all off road, so not to be missed.
Get that Entry in Now! – Frank

What a Great Day Out – at Swindons’ Corinium Enduro.

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

Hi everyone, now before I forget, we’ve posted up Regs & Entry Form for Mendip Vales’ Centre Trials Championship ‘Traders Trophy’ on Easter Sunday April 24th [note change of venue to Lambs Lair after their 'new venue' fell through a couple of weeks ago], for the West Wilts Hare & Hounds at Naish Hill on 5th June [note date change from Centre Fixture List].

We’ve also posted Regs & Entry Forms for BSSA’s Club Glenis Sinclair Memorial 2 hour Timed Trial on May 22nd [note date change from Centre Fixture], that’s running at Lambs Lair as well. We should have Results of BSSA’s 3rd Alan Brown T/Trial up for you during Tuesday Jan tells me.

Yes a great day out at the Corinium, wall to wall sunshine, great entry of 154, only 2 non starters, 5 laps for Experts, 4 for inbetweens, 3 for the Clubmen, two special tests ridden on the 2nd lap. Regretfully St John was called into action, & three riders had to visit Cirencester Hospital, we hope they are all back in speedy action, speedily. SSDT entrants Ian Shuttleworth & Andy Noad were getting in some speed work for their foray to Scotland, while Ian Fortune was absent getting in some section practice, for his Scottish ride, at the Zona 1 ‘Dennis Saunders’ Trial just up the road. James Ovens was riding his first time card  Enduro, & unlike many, he seemed to have what you do in time card events off pat, riding within himself & saving max. effort for the special tests. Yesterdays’ Alan Brown Timed Trial at Hanham Woods had been used as a ‘loosener’  by some of the competitors who claimed that they wouldn’t have been tired at the finish if they hadn’t ridden the night before.

I don’t believe them, they just aren’t fit enough! Frank

As the song says ‘What’s noo …………’

What’s Noo ……. is:

The View from Ba-House

I’ve not been to many trials in the Centre lately, mainly because I have been elsewhere. First there was the Stronlossat Question to resolve, then there were the Talmag, Wallace and Colmore trials to visit, so I’ve only been able to see two Championship trials in the Centre so far, Wilts-Border and Frome.
The Wallace thankfully returned to it’s roots and put in some really scary sections. The one I went to was in an old railway cutting and it was only cleanable if you were willing to fly across a steep camber, in a big gear, and aim to go between two stout Ash trees. It was great to watch and proved to be fairly safe, with only one rider head-butting a tree.
The big climb at Dovedale in the Colmore was at it’s worst this year, very slippery with only seven riders reaching the top. After Dovedale I walked down to Blockley and I was just in time to witness the slowest Road-Traffic-Accident I’ve ever seen. The result was one very unhappy Mercedes owner with a Tesco van in his shiny new bonnet. Still the van-driver tried his best to make amends. “Sorry about that” he said.
I had a bad day at Frome, for everyone started cheating and I failed to stop them. What happened was that a rider tried a new line that I thought was a cheater, so I said, “You can’t do that”, and we took it from there. What he did was ride through a gate then turn left away from the line of the section, do a loop and then shoot back in straight up towards the ends cards. ( Now as far as I’m concerned the rider should at all times try to ride from one gate to the next in as straight a line as possible, riding a loop outside the boundary of the section is not allowed.) Anyway it seemed that everyone, including the Steward, thought that I was mistaken so I had to let them all get away with it. Thinking about it afterwards I’m still of the opinion that I was right. I think it’s absurd to allow that kind of leeway, but it seems that I’m on my own on this. Still,to quote my hero, “Maybe I’m partly to blame”. If I had taken the trouble to study the section before the start then perhaps I could have closed the door with some wood, and stopped the problem early. Sadly though this experience has left me feeling really bitter,so I’ve decided that I’m with Phyllis Sweeting, Theresa Talbot and Colonel Gaddaffi, it’s no more Mr Nice Guy. Be warned, don’t even think of kicking any stones in my section.
Freddie Adams seems to be progressing well. He’s now at the stage of nearly getting everything right but crashing all the time. If he can stay patient it’ll come good soon. It’s bold of him to choose a Honda to train on, for it’s surely the most difficult bike to ride around here. If your ever tempted to buy one yourself, before ordering it you should really spend a few hours watching the two Georges, Best and Papa, at play. They’ve been fighting Hondas for years but unfortunately the bikes seem to be winning.                                                    Ba
Ed. I’ve no idea what the Stronlassat Question is but maybe Ba has discovered is new chemical element called Stronlassium analogous to Strontium which has association with Strontian. I’ve also heard its been very cold in the Highlands this February

What’s Noo is …….
The Wells  Clubs John Stait Trophy Championship Timed Trial Results are now posted on the Page, thanks to Steve Thorne. Quickly scanned them & I see Mitchell Frost did more laps than Tim managed, the younger generation asserts itself? Winner was Shane Lovett losing no marks  on observation & setting standard time, pushed by Jason Hamblin who lost 3 on observation [thats in 6 observed sections] & a minute on time.
What’s Noo is …….
A reminder from the Valers – don’t forget their Phoenix Club Trial on Sunday! Info below – [Shan't get there myself, but I see Pat Richardson is Secretary, would someone let me know that her family are Ok out there in Japan, I can't remember where they live! Unfortunately Tepco [Tokyo Electric Power Co.] have a bad reputation for public communication & the latest retraction [lowering initial radiation dose by 100 times is not reassuring] sorry rant over but I’m expecting confirmation of a rupture of the containment vessels to come sooner rather than later even if the integrity of the SS reactor PV are confirmed.

What’s noo ….. is
That its nearly time for some peoples ‘Holiday in the Highlands’ – I’ve just checked out the runners & riders to see who are our Centre & local riders. Pleased to see that Ian Fortune & Andy Noad [Bath & WoE] & Ian Shuttleworth [WWMC] have paid their moneys  & at 22, 23 & 24 respectively get their early day over with on the first day, I see they’ve got Grimbo, Carlos Casas & Wiggy close to them. Adam Norris [WWMC] & Paul Mountstevens [BMCC] run at 78 & 79 & they’ve got Amos Bilbao running close to them. CSMA have entered Billy Craig, Tony Moulder & Geoff Herbert at 96,97 & 98. Tony & Geoff we know but Billy I’ve never heard of. As he’s entered on a 125 GG I guess he’s a youngster? Get in touch if you know about him, is he fairly local? They’ve got Birks & Joe Baker for company at 100 & 102. Brothers Jean Marie, Eddie & Eric Lejeune  at 115, 116 & 117 are names to conjure with. Not contenders I’m sure but a wonderful tribute to the Event, lets hope they all enjoy themselves & have fun. Eddie especially will conjure up memories for many.
Craig Talbot [Wilts Border] has got in & goes at 150 with Becky Cook at 149. Friends from SW Centre include Ricky Wiggins who’s got in, I’m pleased to say, at 146. Rob & George Pollard [Moreton] are at 157 & 158, & George Edyvean from Cornwall [Pendennis] rides with them at 159. Potential Leaderboard man Ross Danby [Bewdley] is at 198. Theres another trio, this time of Bendalls 228 Henry, 229 Jason, & 230 Joseph {W Glos & Forest of Dean] . Here’s a tip for a top ten place riding at 250: Jack Sheppard [Ipswich] on a 125 Beta, especially as Dabill is riding at 248. I expect both to be top 10 at the end of the week, barring mechanicals.
But where are the Ladies this year? I can only see Becky, Katy Sunter & Emma Bristow in the list. It would have been nice to have had Laia Sanz enter again this year.
Good luck to all of you. Hope you have a good week & enjoy some of it!   ……………   Frank

Centre Trials Champs – Border Cup Regs available. Other chatter. Mendip’s Winterhead Results

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Morning all.

The Centre Trials Champs begin next Sunday with the Avery, then on consecutive  Sundays the Border & James Cups so by the middle of next month we may have a feel for how it might go. With Champion Colin Crease maybe less committed than in the past is it time for some-one new at the top? We shall see, perhaps Colin will be able to ride all Rounds, if he does I wouldn’t bet against him. I guesss though that Ben Darch will want to ride all our Rounds & he will push hard to be Champion.

The Centre Enduro Championships have, to be honest, were a bit of a damp squib last year with more several planned Rounds being cancelled due to poor entries or problems with available venues. Factoring in that several “likely lads” were also doing other Championships which means date clashes were a problem – quite apart from the fact that the likely lads supporters who have the knowhow & drive to put on our Centre Events don’t have many spare weekends either I hope you can understand the difficulties. For this year there are only 2 Enduros & 3 H&H’s on the Centre Fixture List & a 2011 Championship is a little “up in the air”. I hope we will resolve this at the next Board Meeting.

Gary Scrivens is getting the Valers website added to the list of links available directly from the ACU web-site. Having had a quick look this morning I notice there are other Centre Clubs which are also not found via ACU. If Clubs want their sites added, let me know & we can get it fixed for you – obviously if Rugby hasn’t been askedyou wouldn’t expect a link would you?

You saw it here first! Eddie Lejeune (& his brothers) confirmed entries for the SSDT! Remember the report we had last year that it was quite likely – well the ballot favoured them. Never been quite sure about Laia Sanz – after seeing the World Champion having her bike kickstarted for her by her Minders, but this year she was best Lady & finished around 45th two wheeler in the Dakar Rally – I know she had a top class mentor [quiz - who was he?] before & during the Rallye Raid but its still a great achievement, & if the reports that she wasn’t credited with all of the time she spent stopped at an injured rider are correct, then that is unfortunate whether or not it would have affected her ultimate position.

Just in! Rob Pike has mailed over the Valers  Winterhead Trial results from yesterday. Slightly disappointing Entry, but fair weather & enjoyable.

That’s it for the moment, see you at the Avery: Frank

We’ve just posted up for you the Rgs & Entry Forms for the First Centre Championship Trial – the Kingswood Avery Cup on 30th January. Wonder if we might have a new Centre Champion this year?

And Gazzer says “Every Cloud”, as they say and as a result of the cancellation of the infamous “Turkey Trial”, due to snow just before Christmas, the Mendip Vale Trials Organising Team get the opportunity to use the venue for their first event of 2011 -  the Winterhead Trial on 23rd January 2011.
The action takes place at Churchill Rocks, signposted on the A38, at Churchill south of Bristol. Start time 10.30 and enter on the day.
The course will be entirely off road and cater for all abilities, from Expert through to Beginners over three routes.”

The Regs are now posted for you, but I wonder what happened to the Turkey? It might just have unfrozen inthe last few days? – Frank

Don’t Forget the Mike Cornish Timed Trial Tomorrow! The Knut on the 12th, or Mendip’s Turkey Trial on the 18th

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

Reminder from Steve Thorne & the Wells Club

Find their Regs here

http://www.wellstrials.co.uk/documents/MikeCornishTTDec2010.pdf

Don’t forget the Bath Club’s Knut Trophy Trial will decide the Centre Champion for 2010, will it be Colin again? This year has seen his most serious challenger for some time: Ben Darch.  As the Club says ‘the Knut Trophy trial will be on at Dyrham Woods on Sunday 12th December and it will be run for us by Herbie and Theresa Talbot. In the last few years the Knut has regained a lot of it’s star status thanks to the marvellous courses that Herbie has been laying out, so if you’re feeling lucky and want to test yourself against some really big hills then come along and ride. There should be routes suitable for all abilities so you need not be too afraid. Just eat a good breakfast.’

& ‘Scrivs” says the Valer’s Christmas Turkey Trial extravaganza is back by popular demand for another day of silliness on the 18 December. This is a team based event catering for all abilities with the emphasis on fun at the Trial and and in the Pub afterwards. Riders are grouped into teams and those in fancy dress are credited with 10 points against their score, so get the “Blue Peter” kit out and start preparing.

The action takes place at Churchill Rocks, signposted on the A38, at Churchill south of Bristol. Start time 1200 and enter on the day. Prize giving and a raffle will take place immediately afterwards at a nearby local Inn, which will be confirmed on the day, but if the usual venue, is only a couple of miles away . The entry fee also includes sausage and chips at the Pub, so it’s a must to be there. – your Editor

Brockley Cup Trial – Cancelled, Centre Trials Champ update, 3rd Party Road Insurance

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Here we are again!

First off – Mendip’s Brockley Cup Trial has been cancelled Andy Leahy tells us. With 3 other Trials within similar travelling times  Champ – including our own Kingswood Club & a Yeo Vale SW Centre Championship Trial the Valers have decided not to run.

Mary Crease has mailed me the missing names on the Centre Trials Championship List we currently have posted – thanks Mary. A little bit of work will tidy up the List & I’ll tell you when it’s updated – in a few days I hope.

If there are any ‘grassers’ out there that know the list of Centre Champions in Track Racing we would like to have those available as well. Moto-X’ers [Scrambles] Champions would be nice to know – I expect it would include Rob Taylor, Gary &  Neil Hudson Bryan Goss & …….. but I’m guessing here.

Had a note from Chris Wrigley: he says

“Hi Frank just going through buying process for road insurance and came upon a little known “gem” namely doodsonbg.com quoting rath09 (or by going to Sherco website and clicking that link)  They will issue /insure any (even 18 year olds) for third party risks including during  trials competition( between sections) for a flat premium of £105.00/year. Just thought this kind of info should be useful.

They also do fire & theft from garage type insurance  flat rate any bike @£99.00.  [WOW now that's a BARGAIN - Frank]

Being an old git I got fully comp for 250 Sherco @ £80.00 via bike insurer ( a comparison site but the ABI code for a Sherco is listed as Bultaco… model… Sherco so you have to put in make as Bultaco. It seems to me that ABI codes are always c. 3 years behind what is actually going on in the market place.”

That sounds really useful info for anyone who wants to ride ‘traditional road trials” – if you don’t have your own 3rd Party insurance, you have to buy the [ACU] offered one event for what is it ? about £12-50 for each event. With Long Distance trials being very popular as well with Centre Riders maybe they need to look into Doodson as insurer as well?

That’s it for the moment – hope to see lots of you on Sunday – if you are quiet [when there's a Trial on? !] you can see spotted & green woodpeckers at Folly Woods – the Errington Cup Venue.

Frank

ps Not a Centre Resident, but hasn’t Ricky Wiggins done well in his British Championship campaign this year? 4th in Expert “A” class

What’s New?

Posted this morning:

Yesterdays Kingswood Championship Trials Results.

Reminder: Wilts Border “Endeavour” Trial is on Sunday.

Notification of Date  Change for the ‘Valers’ Brockley Cup Trial: it’s been put back a week from 24th to 31st October [so it clashes with Kingswood's 3rd Resticted to Club!].

Regs for the above not posted as Permit No not supplied! – but I think you can take it that both events will be permitted.

Whats New?

Posted this afternoon: up to the minute Centre Trials Championship Tables – thanks to Pete Dury.

Pete says: Colin has moved moved back into the championship lead after yesterdays trial. Otherwise all other class leaders maintained their places.

Well done to Fred Adams on fourth place in his first ever adult championship event [hear hear - Ed.] and to Dad (Chris) on winning the C class (Ian Cobb rode out of class)

Also well done to Rob Hilton winning the AB class – life in the old dog yet eh?

As usual, let me know if I’ve drop any clangers (other than all those five’s yesterday).

Pete then had to update & revise the tables because  – well listen to Pete

I have had to revise the B class points for yesterdays round as I have since received information that Craig Mawlam changed route after lap 1 and therefore the points awarded to him have been removed. All other points scores in the B class have been amended to suit.

In case there are any other queries regarding points awarded in the original update, the following riders were not awarded any championship points -

Craig Mawlam – changed route during trial
Charlie Newman – informed secretary that he would ride out of class by choice
Shaun Sweeting – rode round 4 in the C class
Ian Cobb – rode round 4 in the AB class
Steve Usher – rode round 2 in the AB class
M Tull – rode round 1 in the C class
A Gee – rode round 3 & 4 in the C class

Riders are not permitted to change class mid championship (even if they move up a class)

As a consequence, the winner of the B class was Rob Pitman and the winner of the C class was Chris (the tank) Adams. — Pete

That’s it for the moment: Frank

Franks Ramblings:

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Hi all, happy Easter, nice to see all you God fearing people who had obviously been to Church before todays ‘Traders’. It’s much too early for the results as I write – yes yes I know Mick Perry will already have rung up asking for them. However Section 18 was fairly easy on all three routes even though it was taking ’5′s’ from some of the Experts – nice to see Darren Snell supporting Mendip again. And talking of supporting, Adam Colburn was at the Belmont Estate with his spares van before riding the trial – not making a fortune but nice to see the initiative. He’s intending to take the van to all the events he rides I believe.

Now then I made a comment about Craig Talbots minding duties the other day & it didn’t go any better at the Cheadle 2nd Ladies Champs round either for Becky Cook [26m/l]- beaten into 2nd place again by Joanne Coles [19m/l] but I’m pleased to report that when the going gets tough, the tough get going & at yesterdays Ladies European Champs Round in Italy Becky was R/up to Laia Sainz.

Hope to get some more info fed back from Craig soon.

Did I tell you Maisie Payne won the first Girls ‘B’ class Champ Round – think I did – well she’s done it again in the 2nd Round. Does any-one know if the BGRC grass track ran on Friday?

See you again soon
