facebook, new Centre website, more mutterings!

Hi all,

the “new” Centre website can be found at:

many of you are aware I don’t do Facebook. I’ve now found out why I don’t, this apocryphal tale is, I understand, appearing in many places on the internet, I came across it in a Saab related website.

Before I do that though, here’s a few little sporting snippets. SSDT News, Adam Norris has an Entry, so does Tom Culliford, a lot of foreign entries too. We chose not to go & observe Kingswood’s Avery Cup Centre Championship Trial yesterday week, we’d had the East wind blowing  across our garden the day before & decided then that it wouldn’t be smart to go out on Sunday & stand around on cold ground  in a a sub zero temperature (taking the wind chill into account). I’m delighted that all Sections had Observers, hats off to them all. Kurt has carried on winning & could well manage to defend both his Centre Trials Championships when the final Points Tables are published.

The weather is affecting events as you know, Wilts Border cancelled their Trial last Sunday as was the opening Round of the Wessex Plant Hire British Sidecar Trials Championship (down on Dartmoor?). The BSSA Reg Lewis Trial on Sunday 11th March is already cancelled

And now “A seniors perspective of Facebook

For those of my generation who do not, and cannot, comprehend why Facebook exists I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles.
Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later and with whom.
I give them pictures of my family, of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.
I also listen to their conversations, give them the ‘thumbs up’ and tell them I like them.
And it works just like Facebook!   I already have four people following me:

Two police officers, a private investigator and a psychiatrist.”

Well it made us both laugh, & I’m happy not to leave footprints in the worlds server farms for others to track down. I wonder how many of us have given away or told the world where our two wheeled pride & joy is stored without thinking? I had this conversation about thieves, theft& facebook with someone who wanted to renew their Competition Licence just this morning.

NSMSC Tattoo Time T/trial results, Centre Trials Champs – dates of upcoming Rounds

Good morning allIt’s all been a bit busy lately, we had to go up th Doncaster for a couple of days to help out Brother in Law after he’d been discharged from the Infirmary after a near three week stay. still he’s sorted now i hope, so what’s new?

Jerry Walters has sent across the Results of Saturday’s North Somerset Club TattooTime Chase, held at Frys Bottom Lane, Chelwood which are here: NSMSC TattooTime T:trial Results 050817

We’ve also had some enquiries about forthcoming Centre Trials Championship Rounds.  The current situation is that they are as published in the Centre Fixture List with the addition of Mendip Vale’s Brockley Cup on 17th September. So the remaining Rounds for this year are  :17th September Mendip Vale MC&LCC Brockley Cup,                                                                     24th September Kingswood MCC Hawkesbury Cup,                                                                              8th October West Wilts MC,Errington Cup,                                                                                         26th November NSMSC Presidents Trophy & the last Round is on                                                   10th December Wilts Border MC & LCC Knut Trophy.

Gary Scrivens has sent over a Press Release that tells you all you need to know about the additional Round the Valers are running

“The Mendip Vale Club are coming to the rescue of the Wessex Centre Championship and organising a replacement round on 17 September 2017, to replace previous cancelled events, in the Centre. As it is a round of the Wessex Centre Championship it will run under the “no stop” rule, but even if you are not a fan of “no stop”, go along and give it a go, as the Club will be putting a lot of effort into ensuring the sections will suit all the Championship Categories.

The course will be entirely off road and cater for Expert, and Youth Expert on the “A” Route. Clubman, Over 40 and Youth A on the “B” Route. Novice, Over 50, Youth B and Twin Shock on the “Sportsman Route”. The Clubman Expert Course will be a 50/50 A and B routes combination.
Thanks to the assistance of the Frome Club, for the use of the land, the venue will be at Weston Town Farm, Wanstrow, Somerset, signposted from the A361, Shepton Mallet/Frome Road, at Nunney Catch Roundabout. Start time 10.30
Please note, entries close on 13 September, but will be accepted on the day for an additional charge.

Wells & Dist. TC – Lawford Time Trial 18th June – Results

Evening all,

Phew, the really hot weather has disappeared today, that’s a relief for everyone especially those of us that have to work! Sundays Lawford Time Trial ran in that sort of heat – pretty well 30degrees C.

The eponymous Martin sent over this report saying

Please find attached results of the Lawford Timed Trial from Sunday on what was an exceptionally hot and sweaty slog around Shipham.
Jason Hamblin took the premier on a clean sheet, setting standard timed in the process and Tom Smith was a clear winner in the non trials class with a smaller than usual entry due to many of the regulars preparing for the Welsh.
Regards, Martin”
Don’t forget the Kingswood Club Trial on Sunday out at Ozleworth, or the Swindon & District Clubs’ Swindonian LDT this coming Sunday.                                                                             Frank

BSSA Glenis Sinclair Time Trial Results, Trophy hunters beware

Hello all,

Here are the results of BSSA’s Time Trial held last Saturday:  BSSA Glenis Sinclair Memorial T:Trial Results 140517  Jason Hamblin took the Premier Award  with 11 laps, no marks lost in Sections & setting standard time. Tom Smith was best Non Trials losing just two on time but 27 in Sections including 12 in Section 5 which was clearly the one that caused most trouble.

A word of caution for the curious, see:  the tigress returns Chris & Janet are selling their house in France & coming back home to live. So Trophy hunters please note.

See you soon: Frank

Vacancies for Gazette Editor & Permit Secretary, Avery Cup Centre Champ Trial Results 26th Feb, NSMSC Jack Ball Chase T/trial Regs for 26th March available.

Good evening all,

The Gazette Editor & Permit Secretary have both given notice of their retirement – so it’s up to you guys to “step up to the plate” & volunteer if you want to continue to have events to ride – You have been warned!

We went over to the Avery Cup today & it was run over 4 laps of 10 Sections which made finding sufficient Observers easier, in fact Observers were oversubscribed**, so we had a day out watching riders in action in all the Sections & having time to chat with people. I wondered why Lee Hassall had the letters Molly on the bike, but worked it out later when we saw 4 generations  of Hassall’s in the quarry. Young Molly is only three months old with lovely blue eyes. Congratulations to Lee & Hannah – the hard work starts now!. Richard Elliott was out on his “new” Jotagas & very pretty it is too. Only 5 Experts, but some cracking (i.e. an achievement to clean them) Expert routes with Sections 3 & 4 observed by Mandy Jefferies & Neil Riddle, and Sections 7 & 8 observed by Colin Hassall & Jeff Budd respectively causing most mayhem for them. Kurt Brain was comfortably best Expert on 23m/l gaining most advantage, as Mick Perry will say, on Mandy’s section, which he cleaned every lap – one of those sections where catchers were wise & riders needed confidence to attack the vertical step & the drop off to get back down again. At the other end of the classes, Fin Kettle was looking very assured & showed Dad Lawrence how to do it in several Sections.

Results are here: K:wood Avery Champ Trial Results 260217260217

The NSMSC Jack Ball Chase 90minute Time trial Regs are available here: NSMSC Jack Ball Chase T:Trial Regs & Entry Forms for 26:03:17 thanks to Jerry Walters

Keep em up!: Frank

ps ** but we were  “propositioned” to observe at an out of Centre Trial at Easter!

Centre AGM – Changing of the Guard! Date changes. Regs available for ..

Hello all,

The dust has settled on the AGM, & the old guard will be changing. A brief Report follows.

Roll call of Clubs: All affiliated Clubs were represented except BGRC, Frome, Mendip Vale & Wells.    Apologies were tendered & accepted for Alan Brown & Vic Osman of BGRC.  {Editors comment: Mendip haven’t been represented at the AGM at any of the last six, Frome have only been represented for  three of the last six & Wells haven’t been represented at four of the last six. That suggests the Centre is not in “good health”}

The retiring President, Martin Bracey presented the Harry Croft Trophy to Mike Fear, The Chairman, Keith Wooster remarked that new people were needed on the Board  The Hon Secretary echoed the Chaimans remarks. {that’s the third consecutive year he or the Secretary have said that – Ed.} The Hon Treasurer said we had an excess of income over expenditure only because there were no Inter Centre Event Teams to be supported, but the income showed there were fewer riders & fewer events in the Centre.

The Treasurer presented his Financial Report for the year which was discussed & formally accepted. The Gazette Editor presented his Report reviewing his tenure & announced he was standing down at the next AGM Read that Report here: Gazette Editors Report for 2016 070217

All Officials were elected unopposed, & were exactly the same people as last year, except that your new President will be Denys Plaster of NSMSC, outgoing President Martin Bracey becomes an ex officio Vice President, & Bob Burt replaces Denys as our 4th VP.

The Board Meeting followed & the Officers appointed are the same as  last year as well. Mike Fear announced this would stand down as Permit Secretary at the next AGM

So that’s two important positions you, out there in the Centre, have got to take on to keep your sport running {everyone in the room was over 50 years old – as usual – Ed.}

Please note the following date changes/corrections to your Fixture Card: West Wilts James Cup Centre Trials Champ from 19th March to 26th March, Kingswood Abbotside Enduro from 30th July to 23rd July, BSSA Glens Sinclair T/Trial is on 14th not 13th May.

West Wilts Centre Championship Trial on 26th March here: West Wilts JamesCupChampTrial regs & EntryForm26:03:17

As you’ll see we’ve the Results of the NSMSC RT Keedwell T/Trial, with a Report from Jerry Walters and Regs for NSMSCs’ Gordon Drown Chase & two Centre Championship events, the BSSA 6th Alan Brown Time Trial and the NSMSC Presidents Trophy Trial

NSMSC nsmsc-rt-keedwell-ttrial-results-250916

“Morning Frank,

Results of yesterday’s North Somerset Club, RT Keedwell Transport Time Trial held at Hanham Mills are attached.  Despite some overnight rain the course was in prime condition and once again it was a clear cut win for Jason Hamblin who finished without dropping any marks. Ricky Hudson had another excellent ride to take second spot in the Trials class, losing 15 marks with Paul Manning just behind on 18 marks.

Andy Frost took the Scrambles class win, and overall runner up spot losing just 13 marks. Charlie Frost took second spot in the class on 27 marks, with Harvey Dark taking the third step on the imaginary podium losing 36 marks.

Regards: Jerry”

Regs are available for both of the North Somerset MSC events, the Club Restricted Gordon Brown Chase on October 16th,  [click here!] nsmsc-gordon-brown-chase-tt-161016 and their Centre Champs Presidents Cup Trial on 27th November, which are here – nsmsc-presidents-centre-champs-regs-271116

More Regs, this time for the BSSA Centre Timed Trial Championship have been published & are available [click here or  on the Regs Available page] bssa-6th-alan-brown-centre-champ-ttrial-061116

The Wells Club have a Centre Championship Timed Trial tomorrow – the Presidents Trophy starting at the Lillypool Cafe near Shipham, the West Wilts Club run their Centre Trials Championship, the Errington Cup on tomorrow week up at Perrys by Bath Racecourse, there’s a Centre Board Meeting on Tuesday….. See you there at all or some of them?

Scott Trial – not a lot of Centre interest, AFAIK Jerry Cross is the only Centre resident entered – lets hope his preparations & fitness training pay off & he gets round as it’s sure to be tough. South Western Centre guys Todd & Ty Kellet are entered so I’d guess they will be quick, I hope not too quick though, as the Scott can bite back at you. I wonder if Nibs will give them any advice before the start? From memory George Pollard, Peter Rew & Chris Shorey have also entered from SW Centre.

Last but not least, Pete Dury has updated the Centre Championship Tables after the last Kingswood Hawkesbury Trophy Round, here they are 2016-centre-champs-tables-as-at-261016 In the Expert Class Ollie Humphris has a comfortable lead with 49 points for Lee Hassall on 30, Ben Skinner lies 3rd with 23. I commented, before seeing the Results of the Hawkesbury that I guessed Lee would be the winner as ‘he was easily he best on my Section’ Apologies to Ollie who rode it just as well with just 1 dab on his 4 laps as well. It’ll be interesting to see how the Champs develop as Lee has won both the Rounds he’s entered, & Kurt’s Downhill Mountain Biking Events [that have taken him away from this years Series] are now pretty well over for the year. Phyllis noticed Kurt was riding with much more ‘flow’ than when he’s dialled in to trialling with the modern bike ‘switch on the power, switch off the power’. Time will tell!

Joy & Sorrow, Change to Centre Championship Rules, Clarification of the Helmet Cam Ban.

Morning all,

Firstly, joyful news:

Congratulations to a former Centre President, Phil Steadman & to Barbara  whose 60th Wedding Anniversary was on Tuesday 1st of March. Celebrations happen this weekend!

Secondly, sorrowful news:

Sadly Christine Bradley nee Bull, initially Roys passenger & later his wife, passed away in St Peters Hospice on the same day. You will recall that we had to report Roy’s own passing late in May last year. Our sympathies are with their family. Funeral details will be posted when we know them.

At Tuesday’s Board Meeting, an immediate Trials Championship Rule Change was introduced. As of now, a minimum of three starters will be required in any Championship Class before Championship Points will be awarded. The new Rule will not be applied retrospectively.

This Rule has been introduced after consideration of the Results of the Kingswod Clubs’ Avery Trophy Trial where there were just two entries in the Expert Class.

& Clarification of the Helmet Cam ban has been sought & the ACU  Enduro Secretary has confirmed that it applies only to Enduro events & not to Trials. Expect, however, the bans  wording to be changed to disallow any bracket mounted Cams.
