Trials Champ Tables after the NSMSC Presidents Trophy on 27th November. Gary Marshman confirmed as Champion 2011!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

The latest update on the Centre Trials Championship is now posted in the usual place for you.

As I suggested earlier Pete has confirmed Gary as our Champion

Here’s Pete’s commentary

With just one round left congratulations go to Gary Marshman on joining the elite band of riders who have won the Wessex Centre Championship. It’s now between Ben Lovelace & Colin Crease as to who takes the runner up spot.

As reported after the last round, Kevin Hart is the Clubman Expert Champion but the runner up spot won’t be decided until the last round with Rob Scott, Dean Lovelace & Trevor Ashford all in with a shout of becoming runner-up.

The Clubmen class winner is still to be decided with Kevin Miller & Andrew Kibby only 5 points apart. Kevin needs to finish ahead of Andrew to clinch the class win. Regardless of who wins, both riders will be promoted to the Clubmen Expert class for next year with George Papageorgiou looking likely to join them.

With Merv Walker easily the winner of the Novice Class by winning every round he rode it leaves the runner up spot between Michael Ell & Andrew Humpris. Whatever happens, all 3 riders are promoted to the Clubman class for next year.

The Over 40 class has been decided with Mark Talbot taking the overall win preventing Colin Bennett from making it two in a row although I’m still awaiting sight of Mark’s birth certificate as proof that he is in fact over 40!

With Martin Strang confirmed as the Over 50 class winner for the 4th year in a row there are 5 contenders for the runner up spot.

Cheers — Pete Dury

Frank says: first of all don’t forget it’s the Frome Dinner at Standerwick on Saturday. Secondly Pete says Ben & Colin still have to sort out who will be r/up to Gary. This is how I see it, if Ben & Colin both ride the Knut, any points Colin scores will add to his total. If Colin won he would have  a total of 87 points, Ben currently has 86 Championship points,if Ben finishes 3rd [which gains 10 Championship points] or better he would  end up with 88 points or more, as he would have had to discard one  8 point score.

I reckon the odds must be on Ben, don’t you?

See you at the Knut Championship Finale!

This is what you want to see?? NSMSC’s Presidents Trophy Results are posted

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Right, we’ve just received the provisional results of yesterdays Trial. Its posted as a .pdf on the Centre Championship Trials & Timed Trials Page

The Experts were very close: Current Champion Colin Crease won on 9m/l, pushing Gary Marshman [12m/l] into R/Up place, Kurt Brain pushed very hard but dropped 13m to be 3rd, & Ben Lovelace fived the last Section to lose 17 in total for his 4th place. As last week we’ll leave Pete Dury to do his magic with all the Champ Tables for you & I’ll post them when we have them

Quite a day, quite a championship battle. My quick back of a fag packet calculation makes Gary our Expert champion this year , as now I believe his points total cannot be bettered by any of the other runners. He would also add any points he may take from riding the Knut, as he wouldn’t't have to discard any.

Gary was our Centre Champion once before decades ago, back in 1990

Sorry – we haven’t seen the Presidents Results yet

Monday, November 28th, 2011

As you know we didn’t get to the Presidents yesterday as we were on babysitting duty.

BTW –  William is now walking when he has a couple of Mums or Dads fingers to hold onto & enjoys opening & closing doors -trouble is you don’t know where he is when he’s pushed it too & he’s the other side!

I know you are waiting for the Results to be posted, & more of you than have ever visited the Centre Website in one day before yesterday,144 of you, came to look for the Results yesterday, but I didn’t have them yesterday.

We’ve contacted the Secretary of the Meeting today & the situation is this, the provisional Results have been worked out but there is an anomaly which needs resolution before they are published.

So if you would be patient for a little longer I hope to have been sent them later on this Monday evening   — Frank

Latest Trials Champ Tables are posted!

Friday, November 25th, 2011

Pete Dury has updated his Trials Championship Table after Sundays Frome Club Selwood Novice & Bradley Cup Trial, & comments.

The Championship is now realistically a 2 horse race between Gary Marshman & Ben Lovelace.
This brings to an end Colin Crease’s remarkable record of winning every Championship this century having won every year for the last 11 years. In fact I reckon Colin won 17 Championships in all with more to come I’m sure.

Congratulations to Kevin Hart who is confirmed as the Clubmen Expert Champion.

The Clubmen class is another 2 horse race between Kevin Miller & Andrew Kibby with two rounds to go.

Meanwhile, Mark Talbot and Colin Bennett battle it our for the Over 40 award.

Martin Strang was already confirmed as the Over 50 champion for the 4th year on the trot.

Cheers: Pete

Knut Championship Trial Regs available!

Monday, November 21st, 2011

As promised, Regs are available now for the Knut Trophy Championship Trial in the usual place. Sorry they’ve been up for  a few hours now but I’ve not told you!

Remember I mentioned Kurt Brain didn’t ride the Frome Trial? Now I know why, he was riding the Western Centre Hurran which ran yesterday. Kurt was  In a classy Entry Sam Haslam won on 16m/l, Ricky Wiggins was R/up on 23, Simon Welch 3rd on 33 & Kurt 6th on 63

Pete has updated the Champ Tables & I’ll post them tomorrow,  a query about one riders grading has been raised which may mean some changes. If it can be quickly resolved it will be, otherwise it may have to be ‘provisional’ as they say. Pete also has some comment on how its looking in all classes with the two Rounds to go.

Watch this space tomorrow!

ACU Licence Renewals for 2012

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Hi all,

Some of us [all of us?] have had our Competition Licence/Trials Registration Renewal Forms by now.

You’ll see, well I did when I went to look, that you are going to need a  ‘Unique Club Membership Code issued by Club:  ‘

You’ll need to get this from your Club Secretary, or Club Membership Secretary, however Rugby hasn’t issued them to Clubs yet, as Gary Scrivs. has found [he's Bristol Phoenix's Club Secretary if you didn't know]

Don’t panic, Rugby tell me this morning, Monday 14th Nov, that some were sent last week, & the rest are are being sent  this week. I don’t know if this is as hard or soft copy.

I suggest you don’t try to talk to your Club official until around Wednesday next week 23/11/11 when all should be well!

Bear in mind that you will need this unique number whether you are renewing online or via hard copy, & that your Club might want your Club Sub before giving you the number!

I hope this helps clarify the current situation for everyone!

Hope to see lots of  you at Frome’s Championship Trial on Sunday – Frank

Bath Clubs Peace Trial Cancelled, New ignition system fitted, Latest Trials Championship Tables etc. Board decision re Trials Championship Rounds

Sunday, October 16th, 2011

Bath Club News -

I’m sorry to have to report that our Peace-Trophy Trial, due to be held on Saturday 5th November, has been cancelled. Unfortunately our usual venue,Rodney Farm,is not available to us at the moment,so we had no alternative but to cancel this year’s event.

We do however hope to run the Knut Trial this year and look forward to seeing you all again on Sunday December 11th.We’re planning to go to our usual venue at Dyrham Woods.More details nearer to the event.     Nipper Allen.

Franks’ News – had a new ignition system fitted last Friday. Thanks to NHS & RUH!

Centre Champion News - Merv Walker is ‘walking away’ with the  ’C’ Novice class with 6 wins from 6 rounds. It’s extremely unlikely he will be beaten! It also looks most likely that Gary Marshman can take the Expert Class as, if he rides the next three rounds all those scores will count, whereas Ben Lovelace will drop a score if he rides the next three. It looks as if Colins’ Championship run will finish this year, unless some extremely unlikely events happen.

In AB Kevin Hart only need one third place ride to clinch it, although Trevor Ashford Dean Lovelace & Rob Scott are going to sort out the 2nd to 4th places between them I reckon. B class looks as if it’ll be Kevin Miller from Andy Kibby. I won’t embarrass our O/40 & O/50 riders, no I’ve changed my mind, I will! O/40: Mark Talbot leads Colin Bennett & I reckon he’s the favourite & in O/50 it’ll be Martin Strang.

Board Decision re this years Trials Champs:

“Following the October Board Meeting it was agreed that as some of the Wessex Centre Championship Trials have had to be cancelled for 2011 the Championship will be decided by  taking into account the best scores from all but two of the rounds held. Therefore if 10 rounds are held 8 scores will count but if a rider only rides in 6 of the rounds then all six of his scores will count.”

And now for the next lot of Stuff. Wells Championship TT this coming weekend, Errington Cup Trials Champ Round also on Sunday,WWMC H&H Results, Latest Trials Championships Points Tables etc etc

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Now you’ve digested the earlier post this morning we have:

The latest Trials Championship Tables from Pete Dury

The West Wilts Hare & Hounds Results. Thanks to C of C Brian Shuttleworth & Secretary, Tom Gerken, I think all you riders had a good day? All the comments I heard about the event were complimentary. A lot of work goes into these events & our thanks go to the dedicated band of workers before & after the event & to the Travelling Marshals who were mainly Kingswood & WWMC members who were kept busy but mainly I think recovering breakdowns. The only problem I noticed was that 1 of the 2 lanes of timing went down. I checked our instructions for using the transponder system, you are asked to ‘swipe’ your right wrist over the  fixed scanner an inch or two from it. A rider took it into his head to swipe the scanner with what was more like a right hook straight at it, I gather, so that was why it went down, clearly the system failed its. ‘idiot test’, C’est la Vie. Weren’t we lucky with the weather? Ladies soaking up the sun, small children – there seemed to be a creche with all the Lego, toys & reading cards I saw in the pit – good to see Jack [Broadway] & Hayden [I've been corrected how to spell his name , I used to work with a Welshman called Haydn so sorry Ben sorry Abby or should that be Abbie?] Shuttleworth. Won’t seem like 10 minutes before they they are riding themselves!

We hope & intend to be back next year & look forward to seeing you all then! BTW Daryl Bolter was best performance (I would think that wasn’t a surprise?), but Dan Price had an excellent result being R/up

Stet – I havent posted Results as I can’t link to them this morning possibly a site problem.

Don’t forget we’ve got the next Centre Championship Wells Presidnts Trophy Timed Trial on Sunday, so get your entry off to Steve Thorne ASAP. Regs are posted  here & on Wells’ own website. Steve says “The Wells club are holding their Presdents Timed Trial on Sunday 9 October at 10:30am. The venue is Rookham Old Mine Site on the Old Bristol Road near Wells, postcode BA5 3AP. After the timed trial there will also be some sections set out for beginner youth riders. As it’s no longer possible for us to let our kids ride around and play at an event, this will be an opportunity to formally enter them and let them ride some sections. Please note all youth riders must be supervised at all times by a responsble adult or will be instructed to stop riding. This won’t be of much interest to experienced youth riders and will be on a no award basis.  Contact Steve Thorne 07775802273″

I think the Youth Beginners  Trial is a great idea, no cut throat competition but letting newcomers do what they want to do, ride their bikes, in a semi structured way with no pressures, but also within our Rules so that proper Insurance is in place. The only way to get the hang of it is by getting in ‘bike time’ & we all know what a range of ability there is across youth riders of all ages.

Don’t forget the West Wilts Trials Champ Round at Errington Sands is on Sunday as well, & Phyllis is waiting for your Entry!

Ivan Manning Trophy: The next Centre Championship Timed Trial is North Somerset’s event on 25th September

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

The header says it all really! The Regs & Entry Form are now posted up for you.

Tony Colman tells me its at a new venue but still in Chelwood. Enjoy!

Did I say our Plums were £1 a kilo? Well we now have about 45 quid for the Dorothy House Hospice, the only downside is I’ve been promoted from ‘drier up’ to ‘washer up & drier up’. Phyllis was stung by what we guess was a wasp &  as a result has a >1cm squared patch of no skin on her index finger. Now I know what the phrase ‘Mans’ work is never done’ means!

See you soon: Frank
