Glenis Sinclair TT Results!

Hello all,

Jan has sent over the Results which are here BSSA Glenis Sinclair TT 270414 & in the usual place

Overall winner was Tom Smith who, although bested on observation by Andy Frost, had time enough in hand to ensure the premier was his. Best on Trials tyres was Jason Hamblin, I said he & Simon were swapping places, well with both of them losing 26 on observation, Jason was quickest to the finish for Best “A”. Steve Bather was R/up to Nick Dereham [by just 1 mark] Nick was much the quickest although he lost more marks in the Sections [61] against Steves 42, they both did 10 laps whereas Tom/Jason/Simon did 13. Simon White/Steve Burdge were the best outfit doing 6 laps in total. I noticed Ben Cowdrey {WWMC member} out in the scrambles tyre class after having ridden the Mendip Traders Trial the previous week-end

If any readers are off to Scotland in the next few days  –  as they say – have a good one

BSSA’s Glenis Sinclair TT, results from Scarboro! etc

Good evening! Had a change today & went & watched a Timed Trial at Lambs Lair. We got there about 5 minutes after the start, & immediately put on Paddock Coats, amazing the rain more or less stopped for the couple of hours the event took. Cannily we got to the food wagon just before the rush after the finish & had a bacon bap each, as we only had a Mars bar & some coffee with us, as it was a late decision to go. Jason Hamblin & Simon Prideaux were swapping places at the front of the Trials tyres class thoughout. Good to see Stephen Bather & Dad, David & have a chat, David said todays Foxhills M-X had been cancelled [weather!] on Friday. Likewise with Kevin Hamblin & little Alfie & his Mum.  Kerry Lawford was watching progress of Andy Scrivs & Martin, I hadn’t realized that Andy had broken a finger down in Corwall in one of the Early Trials S/car Champ rounds, whanged it on a tree I understand, a good solid protective handguard was protecting that throttle hand I noticed. We didn’t see Andy Frost or his Dad to talk to, but I’d noticed Andy did the Tough One at Hawkstone last week. Ian Fortuune was there watching, & he & Mark Holmes have got entries for the Reeth 3 Day Trial later on in the year. The Yorkshire Centre Grading system is  arcane in my opinion, as Mark Sunter I noticed in the Entry list is still only a Novice  up there, surely he is at least an Intermediate in abilit in his home Centrey?

I’m hoping that Becky Cook & Victoria Payne have had good rides today in the Women & Girls Events up at  Low North Park in the Scarborough Club’s National today, as I type the Results aren’t posted, but Tom Culliford has 7th in B class dropping 41, a good effort considering George Marshman dropped 52 in ninth. Both of them were eclipsed by winner Toby Martyn, the winner who had laps of 2, 0 & 1 m/l. Those of you with long memories will remember Tim Martin [Pendennis Club] who was contemporary with Rob Sartin when they were schoolboys doing the Nationals. In A class local Dan Peace was winner on 46 with Tom Hooper from SW Centre R/up on 55, Tom Minta was 3rd on 68.

Ladies: Results from Low North Park are now posted & ‘our’ ladies would both have hoped to have better results than they had, Victoria  lost 55 to be R/up to Louise Alford on 50, it was a bit tight for Victoria as Beth Waite was on 56. Becky could only manage 3rd to winner Emma Bristow & Joanne Coles who pipped Becky by 2 marks. More ‘local’ interest, Alicia Robinson was 4th in the Girls B class I see.

I’ll post the Glenis Sinclair TT Results when I have them [probably that will be tomorrow]

Swindon’s Corinium Enduro didn’t get much coverage in TMX this week, but good to see WWMC’s Dan Price was best Expert & David Luff was best Clubman. More ‘mutterings’ {ramblings?}next time. Keep those feet up: Frank

Mendip Traders Trophy Trial – Results – Kurt won! Next Championship Round – West Wilts 18th May

Results of the Mendip Traders have been posted on the Club website, click here Mendip traders 200414   As I guessed Champion Kurt Brain took the premier on 23 m/l. Although results don’t show laps separately, Kurt parted with 5’s on both laps at 19, observed by Colin Hassall, which on the first lap looked fairly innocuous, being along & across a rooted gulley, with the expert deviation over a stump, the rain made it a totally gripless proposition later on, & I presume either Kurt dropped a ‘silly’ five [missed a marker?] or was at the back of the field. Best effort here was Ben Skinners single dab. Event R/up was an expert I don’t recognise, J Tarrant, on 34 with Ben 3rd on 41. Although I didn’t see him, it was good that Paul Hearn came back down to have a ride [as a novice] – a change from his first choice competition of Enduro.

Don’t forget the next Round of the Champs is the West Wilts James Cup on 18th May, & Phyllis is taking entries now.

Mendip’s Traders Trophy Results Awaited!

Hi guys,

I’m still waiting to see yesterdays Traders Trophy Results. My guess is that Centre Champ Kurt Brain had the premier award. Good Trial, 2 laps of 20 sections [ everyones thanks to all 20 observers!] & although it had been set out in the dry,  a few spots of rain early on, & some more persistent rain an hour or so before the finish, made for tricky conditions for most riders 2nd lap. when the climbs & drops became really greasy. A proper Wessex mudplug!

Here’s one I took earlier – at the Kingswood Dinner, where Kurt was presented with the Centre trials ChampionshipTrophy, by Centre President Theresa Talbot

NSMSC’s Jack Ball TT results, Mendip’s Traders Champ Trial Regs, SSDT etc.

Good morning,

First off Jerry Walters has sent over NSMSC’s Jack Ball Chase Results, where Jason Hamblin & Andy Frost were Trials & Scrambles tyred winners respectively. See them here 13thapril 2014

Rob Pike has sent over Gazzers ‘puff’ for the Mendip Vale MC & LCC Traders Trophy , which is always one of the best Trials in the Centre:

“With Easter fast approaching the Mendip Vale Trials Team are making arrangements for the Vale Traders Trophy Trial on 20th April 2014.

The Club are returning to the popular Frys Bottom course at Chelwood near Bristol for the event, which is a round of the Wesssex Centre Championship.

As this is a round of the Championship it will run under the “no stop” rule, but even if you are not a fan of “no stop”, come along and give it a go, as the Club will be putting a lot of effort into ensuring the sections will suit all the Championship classes.

The course will be entirely off road and cater for all abilities, from Expert through to Novice and Over 50, with a fourth 50/50 route for the Wessex Centre Clubman Expert grade.

Start time is 10.30 and the venue will be signposted from Chelwood Village and the roundabout on the A38, just South of Bristol. Entries close on 17th April, with an extra charge for entries on the day.

As in previous years we are planning 2 laps of 20 sections, to enable us to carry out this format we will require 20 observers so any rider that provides an one will get a free entry to our next club trial

Full details for this event are in Regs Available or on the web site –  ”

BSSA’s Glenis Sinclair Memorial TT Regs for Sunday week are published here Entry Form 1.5 hr Glenis Sinclair 27.4.14  & the 3rd Alan Brown TT Results are here   Results 3rd Alan Brown 6.04.2014

SSDT: The Scottish Six Day Trial  starts on May the 2nd. I’ve quickly reviewed the Entry List, & we don’t have many entrants this year. Fred Adams is giving it another go under the Kingswood banner & is 22nd away, Becky Cook [who is almost a Centre resident] rides at 34 for Isle of Wight MCC. Adam Norris riding again as a West Wilts member has No 90. This year his long time riding partner, Scott Cameron hasn’t entered as he has a big family celebration on the 6th day, the Saturday, & being the sportsman he is, decided not to enter knowing he would not finish the event, & therefore deprive another hopeful of an entry. Adam has some quality riders around him though, with Chris Pearson at 86 & Dan Thorpe at 87. Scott’s brother Mark has entered under the Richmond Club banner on a Honda 4RT  at 110. Craig Talbot misses the event this time {saving up to get wed I imagine}

South West Centre is fairly well represented, with Lee & Ricky Wiggins although Lee ride No 2 [!] & Ricky No 270, they also have Tony Rew, Grant Laming & brothers George & Rob Pollard, George Edyvean is from Cornwall Centre from memory. Older stalwarts like Dave Clinkard, Steve Moore & Carlos Casas are also in for the week.

Good luck, to all riders as you will need it, whatever your standard of riding, & have a great week.

Scott Trial.

OK, I have a picture of my 2009 purple Scott Trial hat taken in Kirkenes-  is that the furthest North one has ever been? I’ve heard that Fred Adams [that man again] & Greg Hodge intend to enter this year. Delighted to hear that, so I’ll offer to pay their Entry Fees, the only condition is that they start. If they finish that will be a good days work & an Award would be a big achievement. I’d hope whatever the outcome of their endeavour they will want to improve on it next year, then they will be hooked! Good on you guys.

Latest Updates/Regs/Results/Fixture Lists etc Please read as there’s too much to list individually

Right, now we are getting the site up to date with the last fortnights happenings, Firstly Pete Culliford reports

“Hi Frank,

Results from yesterdays ACU Rnd 1 British Championship youth A/B trial run by Otter vale MCC in devon. A really good event, a little hard for those a bit lower in the ranks as you can see from the scores but a really good trial to watch when the hazards were cleaned by the top riders!

Wessex youth riders Tom Culliford was in 5th Place in Youth B and Victoria Payne got the ladies award. Finley Cullum battled on all day and finished just outside the points.

Next up on the email list was Radio Wiltshire wanting to run a conversation with WWMC for their ‘local Club’ scene series, so I’d better say yes to that.

Mike Fear has sent over the Results of Sundays Kingswood 1st Club Series Trial, Results are here K:wood 1st ClubSeries 050414    & on the  Results Page.

Mike has also circulated his list of Trials Dates correct as at 1st April, this includes Wessex Western & South Western ACU Centres + AMCA. It doesn’t include Timed Trials, but is a very helpful Reference List. Click this link to view Master Trials Dates List 2014 as at 010414

Next up Jerry Walters has supplied the Regs & Entry Form for the 90 minute Jack Ball TT which is on Sunday [13th April] Find them here 90 minute TT 13.4.14 & on the  Regs available Page, together with the NSMSC Club Colin Stenner TT on Saturday 5th May, click here Colin Stenner Trophy – 3 May 2014 & on the  Regs available Page.

Phew, I think that’s everything, if I’ve I’ve missed your contribution, please let me know asap,   Frank

ps Studded tyres are de rigeur in the arctic in winter would they help you keep your feet up?

Back from the Arctic! – please read on ….

Hello all,

been there, done that again, with a couple of nights where we saw aurorae, although they weren’t the really wonderful ones. It wasn’t actually very cold either so my ‘Father Christmas’ beard has really been just for decoration!

Now to motor cycling. Mary Crease has mailed to say

“Unfortunately the Frome club’s forthcoming trial the Wyndham Haines due to be run on 13th April has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.

The future of any further trials to be run by the Frome club is dependent on whether there is anyone out there who would be interested in taking on the running of these events, Mary would be quite happy to continue acting as secretary but new blood is required to lay out the trial.
Although the club has only one piece of land which it alone uses, there are other venues in the centre which it happily shares with other clubs allowing the running of 3 or 4 trials a year, 2 being Centre Championship rounds.  It would be a big blow to the riders of Wessex  and surrounding centres if these trials are lost so if anyone out there would be interested in laying out 1 or more of these trials (get a group of mates together and have a go, now’s your chance) please contact Tom or Mary on 01761 435035 or

Many thanks

Tom & Mary”

I can only echo what Mary says – it would be a great loss to us all if Frome Trials were to cease. So I urge you younger guys, ie current riders, to involve yourselves even more in the sport & put something back in.

As you know Tom has been laying out Trials for 30 years or more, & he hasn’t been well recently, which is a worry. We all thank him for  his enthusiasm in what he’s done for all of us & look forward to seeing him around at events as as spectator.

I’m sure he couldn’t have carried on as long as he did without Mary’s support, and Mary , as she said above, will happily carry out the Secretarial stuff for you new volunteers.

More follows as I work through my mail.
